A defibrillator is a small device that is implanted into a patient’s chest or abdomen to help treat irregular heartbeats. The defibrillator is used to prevent sudden cardiac arrest – a condition where the heart suddenly stops beating. If the heart stops beating, the device sends an electric shock to the heart to create a heartbeat.
There are different types of defibrillators including:
Manual External Defibrillator
Manual Internal Defibrillator
Automated External Defibrillator
Wearable Cardioverter Defibrillator
If it’s determined that a defibrillator is needed, one of our physicians will work with you to determine which type of defibrillator is needed based on your condition.
For more information, please request an appointment with one of our cardiologists.
